Man Tasered in incident at Edmonton International Airport

The RCMP said officers responded to Edmonton International Airport at 5:50 a.m. on Friday for reports of a man attempting to get past the American pre-boarding screening area.

Airport staff and an RCMP member were attempting to restrain the man when he allegedly assaulted the officer as well as a U.S. Customs officer.

The RCMP said the man did not do as he was told and so the officer deployed a conducted energy weapon, often reffered to as a Taser.

Police said neither the man nor the officer were injured.

The man, who the RCMP believe was acting alone, was placed under arrest and charges are now pending.

The RCMP said this was an isolated incident with no threat to the public.
