Edmonton police are investigating the city’s 25th homicide of the year after a man’s body was discovered in a north side parking lot early Friday morning.
Witnesses told police an altercation with weapons occurred between several people at around 3 a.m.
At around 6:45 a.m., police were called to an apartment complex parking lot in the area of 29 Street and 116A Avenue, near Rundle Park.
A man was found dead near parked vehicles in the parking lot.
Police could be seen investigating at the Park Ridge Estates townhouse complex and interviewing people. Almost the entire apartment complex was surrounded by police tape.
A witness told Global News he saw a body lying on the ground between two vehicles.
“It was pretty nerve-racking. I didn’t know what to expect,” resident Sean Umlah said.
“I’m still nervous, still shaking a little bit, but it’s a tragic situation.”
Another witness said she heard yelling and screaming at around 3:30 a.m. When she looked outside her window, she saw someone carrying a board.
“It almost looked like from the fence, but I wasn’t sure,” said the woman who asked that her name not be published.
A green tarp covered a window that one witness said was smashed from the outside sometime Thursday night. The witness said fighting between people in two different apartments began Thursday afternoon and lasted into the early hours of Friday.
At around 9:30 a.m. Friday, two people in handcuffs were taken away by police but it’s not known if they were involved in the homicide.
Police did not say if they had any suspects in custody.
The cause of the man’s death has not been released. An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday morning.
