Appeal for donors renewed as part of National Blood Donor Week

There’s an urgent call for donations from Canadian Blood Services.

The organization recently appealed to Canadians to fill more than 150,000 donation appointments by Canada’s 150th birthday, to ensure that there is enough blood to meet patient needs throughout the summer.

Event Coordinator Kendall O’Neill says they are not on track to meet that target, and are renewing their call to Canadians to fill an appointment before July 1.

In Hamilton, she notes that about 225 donors are needed each week, both new and current donors. O’Neill adds that booking an appointment can be done through their website at http://www.blood.ca or by calling 1-888-2-DONATE.

A donor recognition ceremony is planned for Tuesday evening in Hamilton as part of National Blood Donor Week.

The Honouring Our Lifeblood event recognizes more than 400 donors and volunteers who’ve reached a significant milestone within the past year.
