A celebration of life was held for beloved Halifax educator Wade Smith on Thursday. The former Citadel High principal passed away on June 2 following a brief battle with stomach cancer – Jun 8, 2017

Hundreds of people gathered at the Emmanuel Baptist Church on Thursday afternoon to celebrate the life of former Citadel High principal Wade Smith.

Smith, a well-known educator and popular basketball coach, died Friday night at the age of 50 following a brief battle with stomach cancer.

The “celebration of life” featured music and stories from his family and friends, including wife Sherry and sons Jaydan and Jaxon.

The Wade Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund has been set up in his honour.

In line with Smith’s reputation for having a positive attitude and being a family man, his online obituary for Smith stated:

“In lieu of flowers Wade would suggest you spend time with your children and loved ones, toast your great friendships, keep things simple, keep things smooth, and keep things moving.”
