Hamilton firefighters battle two separate blazes early Saturday

Hamilton firefighters were busy battling blazes at two separate properties in the city Saturday morning.

Emergency crews responded to the scene of a reported structure fire at 54 King Street East just after 3:30 a.m.

The blaze was extinguished quickly and no one was injured.

Damages are estimated at $100,000 and the Office of the Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire.

Hours later, firefighters responded to a report of a fire at a home at 9923 Dickenson Road West in Glanbrook, shortly after 5:40 a.m.

Emergency crews learned that six people – four adults and two children – live in the home and haven’t been seen in recent days.

A search and rescue operation revealed that no one was home, and therefore, no one was injured.

The cause of the fire, which reportedly began in the first floor bedroom area, is undetermined.

The home suffered extensive damages estimated at $350,000.
