Calgary police search for suspect in fatal stabbing at Sunalta CTrain Station

A man is dead after a stabbing incident that happened in Calgary’s southwest at Sunalta CTrain Station Friday night.

Emergency crews were called to reports of a physical altercation between two men at around 11:30 p.m.

When they arrived, they found one of the men had suffered serious injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“What we have been able to gather from witnesses and CCTV is that there was an altercation between two men, details of that we don’t know — the relationship between them, or exactly what transpired between the two,” Staff Sgt. Rob Anderson said Saturday.

“We are looking to speak to the suspect involved in this in order to obtain his version of events.”

Investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying the following suspect that was seen in CCTV surveillance video.

Anderson said the altercation happened inside the train station, on the second floor.Officials said the victim has been identified, but next of kin has not been notified yet, so no further details about the man have been released.Sunalta LRT Station, located on 10 Avenue and 16 Street S.W., was shut down while the homicide unit carried out their investigation. It reopened at about 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
A nearby park was also taped off as part of the investigation as investigators search for evidence there too.“We believe there may be evidence in the park that would lead us to understand better what happened here,” Anderson said.WATCH: One man is dead after stabbing at Sunalta CTrain Station and Calgary police are seeking a suspect — Carolyn Kury de Castillo reports There is no word yet if police have any witnesses, or what led to the stabbing.

Commuters wary about taking transit at night

Greg Prest told Global News he feels “pretty safe” taking transit in the city, especially since Calgary Transit trained eight new peace officers since 2014.

“I see them a lot more than I used to. I’ve been in the city maybe a decade, and that used to be pretty sketchy especially at some of the smaller stations.
