100 years ago Canada came of age at a place called Vimy

A hundred years ago during the First World War, Canadian troops stormed a French ridge-line defended by Germans which had defied attacks by French soldiers who had left behind thousands of dead and wounded.

Hamilton-area teacher Mike LoSchiavo paid great tribute to Canada’s wartime battles and engages his elementary students, in fact the entire school’s student body, in paying tribute to our military forces.

Mike will join us to speak about what he and the students have done for the memory of Vimy Ridge.

Kent Morrison, anchor at Global Edmonton, shared the story of Private Joseph “Goldie” Fairholm of Alberta, who was in battle at Vimy Ridge and who kept a diary of his wartime experiences.Private Fairholm survived Vimy and the war, but his diary was gone for decades. It’s a great story and Kent will share with us.

Ten months after being declared NCR, Matthew de Grood of Calgary is already on the path to increased privilege and freedom.  He killed five young Calgarians and like Vincent Li has schizophrenia.  Carol de Delley, who is the mother of one of de Grood ‘s victims,  Tim McLean, will be on the program today to speak about the haste with which granting more freedom and privileges to de Grood is being carried out.  Carol has communicated with some family members of the young people who de Grood killed.
