An okanagan man who shot his girlfriend in the face has been sent to prison after pleading guilty to criminal negligence causing bodily harm and two weapons offenses.
Mellissa Courchene was shot in the home she shared with Evan Anthony Swite on the Westbank First Nation reserve.
Swite shot Courchene with an assault rifle during an argument.
The bullet entered her jaw and came out the back of her neck.
Miraculously, Courchene did not suffer permanent injuries.
Swite was sentenced to just under three years imprisonment minus credit for time served since his arrest.
He was also fined $600 and banned from possessing guns for the rest of his life.
