A Hamilton police officer was taken to hospital with minor injuries after being hit by car during an investigation.

Police say they were responding to a suspected break-and-enter at the intersection of Concession Street and East 23rd at 11:45 pm Friday night.

The officer was struck by a blue, four-door Volkswagen Jetta which then fled the scene.

Police said the officer was taken to Juravinski Hospital for treatment of an ankle injury and was later released.

They add that the incident did not end up being a break-and-enter after all.
