The trial for a Penticton woman charged with the murder of a member of her extended family has begun in Kelowna.
Grace Robotti, 65, is accused of killing Roxanne Louie in January 2015 in Robotti’s home.
She is the great, great grandmother of Louie’s young son.
Robotti pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in B.C. Supreme Court Tuesday morning but pleaded guilty to causing an indignity to a human body.
The Crown laid out its case against Robotti telling the jury the murder was the result of an argument between the two women over Louie’s parenting skills.
In outlining its case, the crown told the jury a crowbar was used to strike Louie at least 26 times.
Robotti claims she killed Louie in self-defence and was provoked by the younger woman.
Louie’s body was found days after her death along a forestry service road near Naramata.
The jury trial is expected to last several weeks.
