Ivanka Trump products are proliferating on fashion resale sites

Just days after fashion e-commerce site Lyst reported the Ivanka Trump brand saw a 219 per cent jump in sales in early February, the first daughter’s fashions are popping up with more frequency on designer resale sites. That means, women who own Ivanka Trump clothing and accessories are trying to unload them.

Today, fashion resale website thredUp released a list of their brands that saw the most influx in merchandise in 2016 and Ivanka Trump is listed at number seven. The brand, which positions itself as the stylish answer to working women, posted a 223 per cent rise in inventory.

“We’ve learned seller motivations aren’t just about decluttering, but more so about refreshing their style and finding new favourites,” Kathleen Weng, vice-president of merchandising at thredUP, said in a statement. “We also see an increase in shopping this time of year.”

Part of the reason this is a popular time of year to shop is because it’s also prime spring-cleaning season, which means women are clearing out their closets and looking to replenish them with new merchandise.

In addition to a list of prolific brands, thredUp released data indicating shopping preferences in different regions. With regard to the Ivanka label, it found a decrease in consumer demand in New York and Los Angeles, and an increase in Dallas and Houston. But the biggest market to indicate lacklustre interest in the brand was Washington, D.C., the first daughter’s newly adopted home.

Fashion resale sites Poshmark and Tradesy also carry Ivanka Trump, and the former currently has over 2,300 items while the latter has 420. Articles up for sale run the gamut from dresses and coats to shoes and handbags. Although many of the items are gently used (as is the nature of fashion resale), a number of products are brand new.
