Salmon Arm residents have been calling for enforcement and yesterday the authorities delivered.
Residents say drivers, including semis are speeding through town and burning red lights. They held a protest late last month calling for action.
On Monday, the authorities handed out nearly 40 tickets and warnings to motorists on Highway 1 in the downtown business district of Salmon Arm.
RCMP say a number of the tickets were issued for speeding and distracted driving.
RCMP say this is just the beginning.
“As we go forward the Salmon Arm RCMP will continue enforcement efforts in this corridor with the support of our regional highway patrol unit as we strive to make our highways safer for all who use them,” Sgt. Scott West said.
