Man charged with assaulting two Toronto police officers

TORONTO – A man faces several charges after an alleged early morning assault on two Toronto police officers.

The officers were allegedly injured during the attempted arrest of 39-year-old Richard Clarke on Monday morning.

One officer sustained a broken leg, while the other received a less serious “injury to her leg”, according to police.

Police tried to stop a man near Scarborough Golf Club Road and Ellesmere Road when he fled on foot.

Officers chased the man before he allegedly tackled one of the officers and tried to disarm him.

Police were able to arrest the suspect and allegedly found a replica machine gun in his possession.

Toronto Police charged Clarke with nine criminal offences including assault, threatening bodily harm, assaulting a peace officer and carrying a concealed weapon.

Clarke appeared in a Toronto courtroom Monday morning.
