Suspects surrender to Calgary police after hours-long standoff in Radisson Heights

Calgary police were engaged in a lengthy standoff in the community of Radisson Heights on Thursday.

Members of the SWAT team, canine officers and an armoured vehicle arrived on scene at around 8 p.m. after police received reports of shots fired.

Police said multiple suspects were identified but were uncooperative and refused to leave a home in the southeast community.

Officers surrounded the home and tried to coax the suspects to come out. Police said several adults and a four-year-old child were inside at the time.

Traffic in the area was being detoured and neighbours were told to stay indoors.

The situation was resolved peacefully just before midnight when the suspects surrendered to police.

It’s unknown if any firearms were found inside the home.

The child was unharmed.
