Tragic milestone reached after fatal crash near Pierceland, Sask.

PIERCELAND, Sask. – A tragic milestone has been set in Saskatchewan for highway fatalities.

RCMP were called to a fatal crash 5 km west of Pierceland last night.

Mounties say one person is dead after a single vehicle crash on Highway 55 sometime before 1:50 a.m.

That brings the number if people killed this year in highway crashes to 152, surpassing the 151 deaths in 2001.

No names have been released at this time.

Other occupants were treated for injuries.

Traffic was restricted to one lane as a collision reconstructionist was brought in to investigate.

Pierceland is approximately 325 km northwest of Saskatoon.
