Customers out cash after filling up at Shell

CALGARY- Many drivers who filled up at Shell gas stations last week may have been overcharged.

Thousands of people across Canada are waiting for refunds, after a glitch involving those who paid at the pump with debit cards.

On November 29 and 30th, transactions were debited the full pre-paid amount, rather than the amount of fuel actually purchased.

The problem has been traced to the electronic payment system operated by Moneris, which has since shut down debit pre-payments in Alberta. But nearly a week later, many customers are still waiting for a refund-while others may not even realize the error.

“Really make sure that you keep your receipts, reconcile it at the end of the month when you get your statement,” suggests Danielle Primrose, from the Better Business Bureau.

Shell says all accounts should be refunded by the end of the week, and that about a third of its Canadian stations were affected.
