Association gives boost to Okanagan artisans

A number of South Okanagan charities are benefiting from a fairly new Penticton association.
Giving Others a Boost promotes local entrepreneurs, wineries, artists and musicians. It is the brain child of three local entrepreneurs who wanted to do their part to keep the economy moving.
The association held its first showcase event in September 2011. That event saw 14 people attend and $180 donated to a chosen charity.
Six events and a year later, the numbers have dramatically increased.
Giving Others a Boost has raised more than $3,000 for six charities, all while promoting local business by opening its doors to the entire community.
Dianne McEvoy, who founded the association, says its purpose is to showcase local artisans to the general public.
“A lot of networking events are strictly geared to the business community. We want to gear it towards the local public so anybody can come to the event, enjoy the event and meet the local entrepreneurs that they may not know even exist,” McEvoy said.
The association meets every second month.
