Calgary police search for Marlborough Mall carjacking suspect

Calgary police are looking for a man believed to be in his 30s after a carjacking that happened Wednesday afternoon in the Marlborough Mall complex.

Police said a man parked his vehicle in front of a restaurant at the 36 Street N.E. complex, then went inside, leaving his wife and kids in the car.

The suspect, unknown to the family, then hopped in the driver’s seat and drove off, police said Friday.

“The victim pleaded with the suspect to stop and proceeded to call 911,” police said in a statement. “The suspect stopped the car [still in the mall parking lot] and exited by the nearby Walmart.”

Police said the suspect next got into a stolen Mazda 3S and drove north. Investigators believe that car had been stolen from the Marlborough community and that the suspect had driven it to the mall prior to the carjacking with another man.

The Mazda had been parked with the keys inside at the time it was stolen.

The suspect is described as about 5’9” with a  medium build and short, black hair. Police said he was wearing a grey T-shirt, black puffy jacket, grey sweatpants with a black “Zoo York” logo on the side and black running shoes.
