With frigid temperatures expected Thursday evening and Friday, the Nova Scotia SPCA is reminding people to keep all pets inside.

According to the SPCA, although animals may have fur covering them, they are not immune to cold weather and should not be outside in the cold for long periods of time.
With the windchill on Friday, it’s expected to feel like -30C in Nova Scotia.
New Brunswick is also under extreme cold warnings with temperatures dropping below -20C but expected to feel like below -35C with the windchill across the province Friday morning, according to Environment Canada.
JoAnne Landsburg, chief cruelty investigator with the N.S. SPCA, said they are prepared to issue fines to people who leave their pets outside without adequate protection from the cold weather.
She said animals found in that condition can be seized and the owner can be charged under the Animal Protection Act.

The SPCA is encouraging anyone who suspects animal abuse or neglect to contact them.
