Obama says he’ll keep an eye on Donald Trump after he leaves office – Dec 13, 2016

U.S. President Barack Obama says he will continue to “be a citizen” and keep an eye on things after his mandate is over.

Obama made the remarks on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah on Monday night. He spoke about his future plans, saying that while he’ll be paying attention to what happens in the country at the government level, he won’t be the “guy hanging on at the bar.”

He said he needs to spend more time with first lady Michelle Obama to “make things right.”

He also discussed the email hacking investigation, Trump’s refusal to receive intelligence briefings and the benefits of Obamacare.

The U.S. leader pointed out that the allegations of Russian involvement in the hacking of Democratic National Committee member emails was not a secret during the election, and that it had been reported on.

He also said it sends a troubling message about the state of the U.S. democracy that there was an obsession with what was in some emails that he described as “not very interesting,” but that there wasn’t an obsession with the fact that the emails were being hacked, allegedly by someone with connections to Russian intelligence, in the first place.

Obama responded to President-elect Donald Trump’s assertion that he doesn’t need daily intelligence briefings.

The president said the U.S. intelligence agencies are filled with “extraordinary hard working and patriotic and knowledgeable experts” and a president who is not getting their perspective is “flying blind.”
