Last year, Crabbe Mountain only had its bunny hill running late in the month of December. Now it’s two weeks before the holidays and already every trail except for one is being carved up as the hill was able to open much earlier than most years.
“We’ve been fortunate this year to have lots of natural snow here,” explained General Manager Jordan Cheney. “We’ve had about 18-20 inches so far with more on the way this week and we’ve had lots of great cold weather.”
The generous snowfall coupled with rain to harden it has provided a solid base for the hill, giving those spending their days there plenty of reason to assume a long season is in the cards.
“If we were relying on just snow making right now we’d have one trail open top to bottom.”
Ski Instructor Maureen Levesque thinks anyone who was disappointed when they awoke to see snow covering the ground recently would feel differently if they were enjoying what Crabbe Mountain has to offer.
She hopes to make believers out of as many people this season as possible by showing new skiers how much fun you can have on the hill.
“It takes one hour to learn how to ski,” she explained. “Come up, take a lesson, we’ll get you out on the bunny hill, teach you how to stop and start and turn and off you go.”
