A 31-year-old man was arrested Saturday after making off with a bus, near the Joliette Metro station, in Montreal’s east end. (STM)
The incident took place at around 12:40 p.m. ET.
The man, who police said was drunk, took advantage of the bus driver’s absence to board the bus and take a seat behind the wheel.
Upon the bus driver’s return, a verbal exchange between the suspect and the driver ensued.
That’s when the man reportedly made a break for it, driving the bus away.
Witnesses called 911 and police put an end to the joyride a few blocks away, in front of the Préfontaine Metro station.
Montreal police spokesperson Daniel Lacoursière said the suspect surrendered peacefully.
No one was injured in the incident.
