Richmond man selling vehicle on Craigslist allegedly pepper sprayed and robbed

Richmond RCMP officers are investigating after a man selling a vehicle on Craigslist was allegedly pepper sprayed, robbed and assaulted Thursday evening.

The victim, a 39-year-old Richmond man, was found by officers in the 7000-block of Turnill Street suffering from injuries due to pepper spray, just before 10 p.m.

According to police, the victim, who is an auto dealer, placed an ad to sell a 2009 Mazda Tribute SUV on Craigslist and arranged to meet the seller in Richmond.

The victim alleges after the suspect was given the key to look at the SUV, he pepper sprayed the victim several times before taking off in the vehicle.

Because of the pepper spray, the victim was not able to call 911 but eventually found someone to call for help. The victim was treated for pepper spray contamination and is expected to recover.

The Mazda SUV was last seen travelling northbound on Turnill Street.

An arrest has not been made and the vehicle has not been recovered.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, 5’8″ tall, in his 20s with brown curly hair and a dark jacket with the word ‘Security’ on the back, a dark hoody underneath, and a reflective cross safety vest.

The missing vehicle is described as a 2009 Mazda Tribute GT SUV, white exterior with black wheels, dark grey leather interior with the headrests missing from the rear seats and the vehicle may still have the dealer BC Licence Plate starting with the sequence D649.
