Environment Canada is warning of flurries and blowing snow and residents in the Toronto area could see five centimetres of snow by Friday morning.

As a cold front moved through the GTA Thursday, meteorologists said lake-effect flurries from Georgian Bay will develop which could produce the snowfall.

Motorists could see poor winter-like driving conditions leading into the morning rush hour on Friday, Environment Canada said.

Ontario Provincial Police spokesperson Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told Global News officers were responding to an increased number of collisions across the Greater Toronto Area Thursday evening, adding most of the incidents were minor.
