WINNIPEG — It’s hard for Bryan Balong’s family to accept they were searching just blocks away from where he was found.
The body of Balong, who had been missing for almost two weeks, was found in the yard of a house on Royal Ave. on Saturday.
“For it to be so close to where we were for almost two weeks, it was almost devastating,” said Chadd Ticzon, Balong’s cousin.

Ticzon and other family members were among more than 100 searchers who scoured the area on Saturday, only to get a call from police later that night saying Balong had been found.
“It hurt, it hurt a lot,” said Ticzon.
Despite the pain, Ticzon is hoping his family can focus on getting closure by leaning on each other.
“That’s what he would’ve wanted. That’s what he would’ve wanted from the start and it’s just him doing it again, just not in the way we would’ve hoped,” said Ticzon.
Balong, 33, had been missing since Nov. 22. He was a father of two, a five-year-old and two-year-old girl.
Winnipeg police are still investigating Balong’s death and are awaiting the results of an autopsy.
