CALGARY – A Medicine Hat woman, whose child died six months ago, is reliving her loss all over again.

During a trip to Calgary, Laura Hudson’s purse was stolen from a hotel pub, with her child’s ashes inside.

Now, the family has sent out a desperate for its return.

“He was already taken from us once and now the rest of him is gone,” Laura Hudson said. “I just want him back.”

Hudson’s baby, Hunter, drowned six-months-ago. He was Hudson’s fourth child.

This weekend, the entire family made a special visit to Calgary to attend a ceremony at the Alberta Children’s Hospital to help grieving parents.

“It’s a Christmas tree decorating for people that have lost children,” Nathan Hudson, Hunter’s dad, said.

On Friday night, Nathan and Laura went to Henry’s Pub located at 26 Street and 32 Avenue N.E. in the Sheraton Cavalier’s lobby, where the family was staying.

In surveillance video provided by the Sheraton, you can see two women enter the bar while Nathan and Laura are at the VLT machines. Then, one woman hastily looks around, grabs something off the bar and they both take off.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Police said they left the pub and drove away in a silver, four-door car, possibly a 2008 or newer Mitsubishi Lancer.

At approximately 1:15 a.m. Sunday, credit cards from the stolen purse were used at the 7-11 located at 7233 Ogden Road S.E., by two women, according to police.

Laura said it took about 30 seconds before she realized her purse was gone and “her heart just fell out, it just dropped.”

At first, Nathan said he didn’t understand why his wife was so upset.

“I thought, ‘oh darn’, and then when my wife said the ashes were in there,” Nathan said.

Little Hunter’s ashes were in Laura’s purse, she had brought them with her to bring her comfort during the trip.

“My wife likes to bring him everywhere we go, so that he’s close with her,” Nathan said.

Police are hoping to identify the women who are believed to have information about where the contents of the stolen purse may have ended up.

The Hudson’s are desperate to get Hunter back.

Laura said she doesn’t want the purse or credit cards back, she just wants her son.

“Whoever took my baby Hunter’s ashes… just please bring him back.”

Calgary police continue to investigate.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
