Suspicious package at Regina police station turns out to be for geocaching

Police said at around 1:15 p.m. CST, a package was brought to the police station after someone found it in a local park. They said the person thought the package looked suspicious.

Regina police briefly closed down the front desk at police headquarters Tuesday afternoon after a suspicious package was brought there.

Police said at around 1:15 p.m. CST, a package was brought to the police station after someone found it in a local park. They said the person thought the package looked suspicious.

The Regina Police Service Explosives Device Unit looked at the package and advised employees and members of the public to leave the front lobby.

After further investigation, the Explosives Disposal Unit found the package was not a threat and was part of someone’s geocaching game.

Geocaching is a game where someone hides items and others try to find it using a Global Positioning System (GPS). Geocaching containers can hold toys or other trinkets for collecting or trading.

Regina police reopened the lobby at 2:09 p.m.

Police said anyone who sees a suspicious package should call police but not attempt to touch or move it.
