It’s been growing for years and the growth is far from over. Kelowna International Airport has seen some major expansion in the last few decades but now officials have created a development plan that will take the facility into 2045.
“YLW is an important asset for the City of Kelowna and the entire Okanagan Valley,” said Airport Director, Sam Samaddar. “We need to plan ahead to ensure the future of YLW for upcoming generations.”

The plans provide recommendations on everything from air traffic forecasts to parking. They also lay out the airport’s top priorities including more direct and overseas flights, greater parking and accessibility, improved arrivals areas and baggage carousels, greater food and beverage choices and faster security screening.

The cost of the development plan is expected to come in around $259 million. Kelowna city council approved the plans Monday night.
2015 saw a record 1.6 million passengers using the airport. That number is expected to grow to 3.5 million by 2045.
