Fire officials said while no injuries to humans were reported at a weekend house fire in northeast Calgary , the blaze claimed the life of a dog.
Fire crews were called to reports of a fire at a home in the 100 block of Fallswater Crescent N.E. at around 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
People who live in the home told fire officials a smoke detector in the basement alerted them of the fire and they saw smoke coming out of the heat registers.
Firefighters forced entry into the home through the front door, found the fire in a bedroom and were able to contain it to the one room.
Officials said no people were harmed or found in the house when they arrived, but a dog was pronounced dead at the scene.
How the dog died has not been confirmed but officials believe it was caused by smoke inhalation.
There is no word yet on what caused the fire.
