Junior Achievement (JA) is warning the public to be on alert about a fraudulent fundraiser happening in Nova Scotia.
They say young people wearing Junior Achievement badges are posing as volunteers and selling chocolate bars door-to-door and in parking lots at grocery and department stores.
They’ve gotten reports of the scam happening throughout Halifax, Bridgewater and New Glasgow.
JA says they do not have any chocolate bar selling campaign happening at this time, and are concerned that people are being deceived.
“This is not a JA campaign and the funds are not reaching our charity to help support our programs,” spokesperson Emma Brophy said in a release.
“We appreciate our donor gifts very much and are deeply concerned that the generosity of donors is being taken advantage of.”
Halifax Regional Police are investigating the case.
JA is a provincial charity that provides hands-on experimental learning both in the classroom and through extra-curricular activities.
