The BC government has committed $18.4-million to the City of Kelowna and three local societies to build four new affordable housing projects.
The province pledged $2.4-million to the City of Kelowna for a 20-unit housing project on Drysdale Boulevard.
The Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society will receive $8.2 million for a 42-unit housing project on Highway 33 East, the Pathways Abilities Society is getting $3.2-million for a 22-unit housing project on Fuller Ave and just over $4.5-million is going to the Society of Hope to help build its 47-unit Apple Valley building on Benvoulin Ct.
“When you see the number of applicants that come forward for these properties, it’s mind-blowing,” said Jeff Simla with the Society of Hope. “To be able to offer some hope in a market where there seems there’s not much options for housing, there’s 78 units that will be filling up in the new year, another 47 units in the works, it’s a tremendous boost to our city.”
In total, 131 new units will be created.
