Kelowna Regional Transit strike drags on

Central Okanagan transit riders are being offered refunds for their bus passes as the transit strike enters its fifth day.

Those who are stuck without a ride can apply for a pro-rated reimbursement.

Refunds will be made available at Kelowna City Hall once strike action ends.

But at this point, the president of the union says there’s no end in sight as the two sides are still no closer to a resolution.

Bus drivers and other transit workers took to the picket lines on Thursday morning after the union voted to reject the contract that was offered to them.

Bus drivers went back to their employer – First Canada – with a new offer – but so far have not been called back to the table.

Transit union workers have been picketing at various locations in Kelowna.

This is the first time in the history of Kelowna Regional Transit that drivers have walked off the job.

The union has been without a contract since april 1st.
