WINNIPEG — The Canadian Space Society brought its annual space summit to Winnipeg for the first time this weekend.
Organizers said the space conference had booths, guest speakers, and information for people interested in space.
But, with Canada being the third nation with a satellite in space in the 60’s, organizers of the conference said space is a crucial topic to continue to discuss with Canadians.

The conference celebrated Canadian achievements in space and opened the door to more conversation for people wanting to know more about Canada’s initiatives in space.
“We want to expand the amount of space awareness of the general Canadian public. That includes everybody across Canada. By having these various types of events we increase conversation, knowledge and awareness of what Canada’s doing and what Canada could do in space,” said Wanye Ellice, the Vice President of the Canadian Space Society.

Ellice added that space in Canada has always been exciting and bringing that enthusiasm to Winnipeg was a goal organizers were able to accomplish this weekend.
The event also included various space-themed activities including a chance to see a Sputnik replica and a LEGO Moon Rover.
Ellice said the Canadian Space Agency has also recently put out a call for two new Astronauts that will hopefully be decided on next year.
The event continues at the Manitoba Museum all Sunday.
