Robot sets new record for solving the Rubik’s Cube – Nov 10, 2016

A high-performance robot set a new world record for the fastest-solved Rubik’s Cube on Wednesday, according to its makers.

The machine, called Sub1 Reloaded, managed to solve the famous puzzle in a remarkable 0.637 seconds at a trade fair in Munich, a spokesperson for manufacturer Infineon told Reuters.

That beats a previous record of 0.887 seconds, set by an earlier model of the same robot.

Guinness World Records has been notified about the attempt but is yet to officially acknowledge the new world record.

The current human record holder is 14-year-old Lucas Etter, who solved a standard Rubik’s Cube 3x3x3 in 4.904 seconds. The previous record was 5.25 seconds.

“To hear that he got a 4.9-second solve, I was amazed really. Just the way his fingers move – it’s incredible” Lucas’ mother Dana told LEX18 News last November.
