Good news for The Pas as the province announced its paper mill there was successfully purchased.

Tolko Industries employs 332 people in the northern Manitoba town, which has a population of around 5,500 people. On August 22 the B.C.-based company announced it would be shutting down operation in Manitoba in December.

Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister announced Thursday that the sale of Tolko Industries to Canadian Kraft Paper Industries Limited was finalized.

“Our government is extremely pleased by the successful completion of an agreement between Tolko Industries Ltd. and Canadian Kraft Paper Industries Limited that will preserve existing jobs and secure long-term, sustainable development through one of the primary employers in northern Manitoba,” Pallister said in a news release Thursday.

Employees in Manitoba will transition to the buyer and “will maintain operations going forward” according to the province.
