Just a few weeks after it was announced that the Canadian Finals Rodeo would be sticking around in Edmonton through at least 2018, it appears there’s a new rodeo in town.

The K-Days Summer Rodeo will be held at Northlands Coliseum from July 21-23, alongside the popular summer festival.

The new rodeo is a partnership between Northlands and the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association. Athletes from across North America will compete for their share of a $400,000 purse.

“Northlands is proud to showcase our region’s western heritage with the addition of a summer rodeo to K-Days,” Tim Reid, president and CEO for Northlands, said. “Rural and urban audiences alike will get a chance to enjoy world class rodeo action.”

“Showcasing the best of the best in the sport of rodeo at a sanctioned CPRA event is a win/win for all,” Jeff Robson, with the CPRA, said. “Not only is this one of the biggest purses in North America but this gives the winners a stronger opportunity to qualify for CFR in November 2017.”
