Saskatchewan RCMP say a man’s body was recovered after he tried to evade police by swimming across a body of water on Monday.
At around 1 p.m. CT, members of Unity and Provost, Alta., RCMP were called to a complaint near Macklin, Sask.

Officers in the Unity RCMP Detachment area arrived and found a man related to the complaint.
RCMP officials said he attempted to evade police but subsequently disappeared beneath the surface of the water near the Alberta border. An RCMP member entered the water but was unable to provide assistance.
The deceased individual was later recovered from the slough with the help of rescue crews. The man’s name and age have not been released.
Saskatchewan RCMP has a request for an independent investigator. The Moose Jaw Police Service is now looking into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
Additionally, the Ministry of Justice was asked to appoint an independent observer.
