The annual game-day toy drive at the Edmonton Eskimos game on Saturday set a new record by collecting enough toys to give 728 children gifts this holiday season.
In total, the community managed to raise $20,440.50 and donated 1,100 toys which will provide 728 presents. This year’s toy drive broke the 2013 record which saw 425 children receive gifts through 630 CHED’s Santas Anonymous.

For Eskimos fans, there were plenty of reasons to celebrate Saturday. Not only did the team defeat the Toronto Argonauts, fans were lauded for their toy-raising efforts on-field as well.
After collecting 165 toys through a social media campaign in the weeks before the game, fans from Section O at The Brick Commonwealth Stadium were invited field level before the game to crank the Eskimos siren to signal kickoff.
Donations from the Eskimos staff and fans are given to 630 CHED Santas Anonymous, an organization devoted to bettering the lives of less fortunate children in Edmonton. The toys are distributed to the children before Christmas.
