Rainfall warning issued for Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island

A rainfall warning was issued for much of Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island for Tuesday night and the rain will continue this morning.

Environment Canada said heavy rain is expected Tuesday night through until Wednesday evening as two weather systems travel through the area.

Fifty to 60 millimetres of rain is forecast for the North Shore while 50 to 80 millimetres is projected for the Port Mellon to Gibsons stretch of Howe Sound.

West and Inland Vancouver Island and Port Alice will receive over 100 millimetres.

A total of 50 to 75 millimetres is forecast from Fanny Bay to the Qualicum Beach area.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roadways. People are also warned to watch for washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
