U.S. President Barack Obama says that if Hillary Clinton wins the presidential election she will face the same sexist double standards during her tenure as president that female political figures around the world often deal with.

Samantha Bee, host of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, questioned the president during a Halloween-themed interview and touched on what issues Clinton would face if she wins the Nov. 8 election next week.

“If and when Hillary is president, what do you think will be the female equivalent of ‘you weren’t born in this country?'” Bee said, a reference to the birtherism conspiracy that faced Obama.

“That’s an interesting question,” Obama said. “I think the equivalent will be, ‘She’s tired, she’s moody, she’s being emotional.'”

He noted the double-standard women face as political figures.

“There’s something about her. When men are ambitious, it’s just taken for granted. Well of course they should be ambitious,” he said. “When women are ambitious, why? That theme, I think, will continue throughout her presidency and it’s contributed to this notion that somehow, she is hiding something.”

“What a nasty woman,” Bee responded, a jab at Republican nominee Donald Trump who interrupted during Clinton during the final presidential debate.

Throughout the campaign Donald Trump has launched several attacks against Clinton including questioning her strength, stamina, and suggesting she doesn’t have that “presidential look,” that some have labelled as sexist.

Susan Lee, master lecturer of social sciences and gender at Boston University, spoke with Global News ahead of the second presidential earlier this month and said Trump’s repeated questioning of Clinton’s stamina is emblematic of the sexism many women face in the work place.

“I think Trump’s comment about her stamina really brought that home and questioned if women were really strong enough to handle [the position],” Lee said. “Women really have to be twice as good as men to compete. There was no question between these two candidates of who was more experienced and qualified for the position. [Women are] likely to run to charges of not being competent and the contributions [they] do make are likely to be de-valued.”

On Sunday, Vice President Joe Biden also commented on the double standards that women face, including being criticized for not “being likable,” while men are praised for “being authentic.”

“I get all of this credit for being authentic, and you know, and now even Biden gaffes are now, you know, ‘Biden tells the truth,’ kind of thing,” the vice president said during an interview with CBS’ Face the Nation.

“But, I’m a guy. If I start talking about my Beau and I get filled up, my son who died, they say, ‘Well, he’s just a good decent father, honourable man.’ If she were to do that, you’d have a chorus of, ‘She’s playing the woman card here. She’s crying.”
