Halifax election 2016: Judicial recount underway for District 9

Justice Joshua Arnold is overseeing a judicial recount for Halifax District 9 at the Nova Scotia Supreme Court Monday.

Incoming councillor Shawn Cleary won by 106 votes, defeating incumbent Linda Mosher in the October 15 election. It’s the widest margin of defeat that is being recounted in the 2016 election.

Arnold will recount each of the paper ballots cast in the District 9 councillor election.

Last week, a judicial recount in District 14 confirmed Lisa Blackburn’s election over incumbent Brad Johns. She won by 47 votes — that number didn’t change after the recount.

Another recount will be held Tuesday morning for the District 10 election where incumbent Russell Walker held onto his seat by 35 votes. Defeated candidate Andrew Curran is asking for the recount.

The new council will be sworn in Tuesday evening.
