Wrapped in plastic and tape, life-size “dead bodies” are hanging in a clubhouse and lying on kerbs sporting signs in Filipino reading “Don’t be like me”.

Community president James Figueras says they wanted to raise awareness of the more than 3,600 people killed under the government’s anti-drug campaign which was launched in July. More than two-thirds of those killed were gunned down by alleged vigilantes who leave their victims wrapped in plastic and packaging tape beside signs reading “I’m a drug pusher” or “Don’t be like me.”

“What’s happening is much more real as against a vampire, or a white lady, or a headless ghost or priest, something like that. These (wrapped bodies) it’s there, it’s happening. So it may be more appropriate to scare kids with that,” he said.

Duterte, who won a May election on the back of an anti-crime platform, has promised to continue his bloody crackdown on drugs until 2017 despite criticism from international bodies like the United Nations and the European Union.
