WATCH: Prince Harry helps with elephant relocation in Malawi

Britain’s Prince Harry visited a national park in Malawi over the summer to take part in one of the world’s largest elephant relocations meant to address an imbalance in their numbers.

The project, called ‘500 elephants’, moved hundreds of elephants more than 350 kilometers (217 miles) across Malawi from Liwonde National Park and Majete Wildlife Reserve to Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve.

Prince Harry assisted with the first phase of the translocation during which 261 elephants were given new homes in Nkhotakota.

The remaining 239 elephants will be moved in the Summer of 2017.

Describing it as a “unique experience,” Prince Harry said the project will help address the imbalance in elephant numbers to ensure their long-term survival.
