On Nov. 1, 2016, Jasper Place Fitness and Leisure Centre will close its doors; the fitness centre will be shut down permanently and the pool area will be updated.
The renewal project will see the lobby and front counter service area reconstructed to accommodate people with mobility restrictions. A barrier-free washroom will also be installed.
The fitness centre will be rebuilt into a new “universal aquatic change room that will be available to all genders and families,” the city said in a news release. The change room will also be accessible to patrons with mobility restrictions.
The city said the current men’s and women’s change rooms will also get an update.
Maintenance will be done on the entire facility to improve operations, the city said.
More parking will be added to the front of the building and the exterior will get a face lift.
Members are asked to use another City of Edmonton rec centre while the work is being done. The city said they could also use Jamie Platz YMCA.
