Okanagan athletes flying high

Five Okanagan athletes are still flying high following their return from the Indo-Pacific Championships in Australia.

Rachel Stone, Emma Tucker, Danielle Gruber, Adele Lefevre, and Trevor Stirling were among the Canadian contingent representing Canada along with their coach, Angelo Despotas of the Okanagan Gymnastics Centre in Kelowna.

The most exiting finishes came with a one-two finish for Gruber and Tucker on the women’s 13-14 year-old double mini trampoline.

“This was our biggest goal and the plan for these girls. This is what we went there to do,” says Despotas.

The girls both reached their personal best for difficult scores, in the trampoline world known as D.D.

Rachel Stone finished in second place in the Women’s 15-16 yr old category on double mini trampoline.

“Rachel was superior and top of the field. She also competed her personal best D.D. and was again two points higher than third place even with one bad pass. She was way above the rest of the field in her other passes,” says Despotas.

In the trampoline events, four OGC athletes reached their personal best D.D’s. “Everyone was peaking at the right time.”

The final outcomes were not as metallic as double mini, but their coach was still proud of their great achievements and the way they represented Canada, their club, their coach and themselves.

Danielle Gruber qualified for finals in the Women’s 13-14 Women’s Trampoline, Rachel Stone qualified to finals in the Women’s 15-16 Women’s Trampoline, and Trevor Stirling qualified for finals in the Men’s 17+ Trampoline. Stirling finished just shy of a medal in fourth place.
