As winter approaches, the Hebrew Foundation School (HFS) in Dollard-des-Ormeaux (DDO) is taking action to help those in need of warm clothing.
It’s part of the school’s Share the Warmth campaign, which started earlier this month.
Students were asked to bring in “gently worn or new items of winter clothing,” which will then be donated to Sun Youth.
Teachers and students at HFS said they truly believe in the importance of helping the less fortunate.
“Teachers incorporated the cause into their lesson plans and we had an assembly with Eric Kingsley, the emergency services coordinator at Sun Youth, who spoke to our students,” said Amanda Wener, the school’s director of admissions and marketing.
Each month, the school picks a different cause to support in order to teach students to give back.
“It really shows that our children are receptive to it, they’re learning about it and that they feel connected to the causes we’re teaching them about,” Wener said.
The clothing will be donated to Sun Youth on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
“We knew it would be good,” Wener said. “I don’t think even we had expected the turnout.”
