After beginning the day with multiple communities under a weather advisory from Environment Canada, all of Alberta saw it lifted by mid-afternoon Monday.

Calgary was added to a fog advisory at 9 a.m. Monday after dense fog and freezing drizzle stretched further south than originally anticipated. Areas north of Calgary had been under a fog advisory as of Sunday night.

The amended advisory said fog had reduced visibility to near zero from Red Deer to Calgary, especially along the QEII Highway.

“Fog also extends east to the Saskatchewan border,” Environment Canada said.

“Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations.”

Fog advisories are issued when near zero visibilities in fog are expected or occurring.

Other areas included in the fog advisory were Airdrie, Cochrane, Olds, Sundre, Brooks, Strathmore, Vulcan, Drumheller, Three Hills, Hanna, Coronation, Oyen, Red Deer, Ponoka, Innisfail, Stettler, Rocky Mountain House and Caroline.
