A crash in Burnaby has left at least one person dead this morning, forcing crews to close a stretch of Barnet Highway.
A taxi was severely damaged after driving into a pole near the Reed Point Marina at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday. Parts of the cab were scattered across the road.
The driver was the sole occupant of the cab and was ejected upon impact. Police say speed was a factor in the crash but it is not yet known if weather played a role, however, it was raining at the time.
Investigators closed the westbound lanes of the highway for hours but it has since reopened.
The cause of the crash has not yet been confirmed.
