The City of West Kelowna is offering free water to residents, as thousands remain under a water quality advisory.

It’s not public yet, but in the next few days the city’s bulk water system on Shannon Lake Road will be open for residents to take water.
About 4,000 homes and businesses in West Kelowna who rely on the Lakeview Water System have been under the advisory since the beginning of August.

The advisory was put in place due to excess algae growth and high turbidity levels in the water. It’s recommended the water be boiled for one minute before it’s used by children, the elderly, or people with compromised immune systems.
With temperatures now getting closer to the freezing mark, the city expects the algae will subside soon.
“We don’t believe this water advisory will last a lot longer,” said Kirsten Jones with the City of West Kelowna.
In the meantime, Jones said the bulk water system will stay open until the advisory is lifted.
