1 dead, 3 injured after three-vehicle collision on Highway 40

A 30-year-old woman is dead and three other people are injured after a three-vehicle collision in Saint-Lazare Saturday afternoon.

According to the SQ, the passengers arranged a lift to Gatineau online.

A male passenger reportedly texted his girlfriend saying he was worried about the driver’s dangerous driving.

The driver was on Highway 40 East when at around 1:45 p.m. she lost control of her car.

The vehicle crossed the median and hit a westbound car. A third vehicle was hit as well.

The driver, a 35-year-old woman from Gatineau, suffered serious injuries but is recovering in hospital.

However, a female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her name has not been released at this time.

The second passenger, a man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries but is expected to recover.

The driver of the second car suffered minor injuries and the one in the third vehicle was treated for shock.

Investigators are working to determine exactly what happened and are expecting to interview the passenger who was travelling with the woman as soon as he recovers.

The SQ said the driver could eventually face charges of reckless driving.
